2017 is here and people are making resolutions about what they are going to change this year. One of the most common resolutions for the new year is to better your health. You don’t have to make major changes, so If you’ve tried before and failed, here are a few simple things you can do to make a difference!
- Get More Sleep
One of the best things you can do is to give your body the sleep it needs. You don’t have to necessarily go from six hours a night to eight, but even adding in an extra half hour every night will make a difference in how rested you feel throughout the day. Have a hard time going to sleep? This Philips Morning Wake-Up Light simulates sunset and sunrise to help regulate sleep patterns by naturally preparing your body for sleep-time and gently waking you up every morning. While you don’t need to give your eating plan a complete overhaul, you can start by making sure your meals are balanced. Aim for a protein and a carbohydrate at every meal to feel satisfied for longer. Need a quick run through on the best proteins and carbs to fuel your body? Tosca Reno’s book, The Eat-Clean Diet Recharged, is an easy to read, straight-forward book that will help guide you in balancing meals so you can eat more often, weigh less and have more energy!
One of the things that many people dread is exercise, but you don’t need to sign up for the gym or commit to an exercise program to make a difference. Park your car at the end of the parking lot when you go for groceries, take the stairs up to your 2nd floor office instead of the elevator, Lay on the floor and do 10 crunches and stretch things out on a yoga mat while you watch television. The key is to start by just doing the little things, as over time those little things add up and make a difference in your health overall.
4. Visit a Naturopath
Take control of your health by visiting a Naturopathic Doctor. Unlike conventional doctors who generally treat symptoms, a Naturopathic Doctor will try to determine what is causing the symptoms to prevent them from happening in the first place! A Naturopathic Doctor will review your diet, lifestyle and health to determine the root cause of the problem. Using a holistic approach, in combination with the advice from your Medical Doctor, will ensure you have a full-spectrum treatment plan for anything that ails you! The good new is, Medical Doctors and Naturopaths are now starting to work together more, to ensure you get well-rounded advice!
5. Take some ‘Me’ Time
Everyone needs to take time everyday to relax and compose themselves. You don’t need a whole afternoon, just start out small and do something for about 20-30 minutes a day that is for you, and you alone. For instance, relax in the tub with the lights out and candles lit, snuggle up on the coach and read, grab a coffee and go for a relaxing walk in the woods, take a short nap for a quick pick-me-up, go for a walk around the block with your favorite music playing in your headphones, or color in an adult coloring book – whatever it is that you enjoy, take time for yourself every day because you deserve it!
